Altadena Skylight Installation, Repair & Fire Rebuild

Since the January 2025 Eaton Fire, most Altadena calls fall into one of two categories: fire rebuild projects where the home is being reconstructed and every component must meet Chapter 7A WUI requirements, and repairs or installations on homes that survived the fire. Both require understanding that Altadena is LA County jurisdiction, not LADBS, not a city building department, and that the permit process, forms, and contacts are different from what most contractors default to.

For fire rebuild projects, Chapter 7A is non-negotiable. The California Building Code requires fire-rated glazing in WUI zones, tempered or laminated glass. Standard acrylic and polycarbonate dome skylights do not qualify. Velux FCM laminated glass units qualify; CrystaLite and Solar Industries have WUI-compliant configurations as well. We specify the right product and provide the compliance documentation, product data sheets, fire ratings, installation specifications, that LA County and the project GC need for permit submission and inspection.

Working as a subcontractor in a rebuild project means coordinating with the GC rather than the homeowner directly. We show up when the framing is ready, install without creating schedule problems, and hand off clean documentation. We have done this in Altadena and know what the rebuild coordination process looks like from the sub side.

For existing Altadena homes, we handle standard installation, replacement, and repair work. The permit process goes through LA County Building and Safety.
